Yearly website costs in Colombia: domain, hosting and maintenance

The launch price is only part of it. Recurring charges follow, and many quotes don't show them. These are the ranges VALNET published in October 2026:

  • Domain: COP 40,000 to 150,000 a year.
  • Hosting: COP 120,000 to 1,200,000 a year, depending on the type. Many agencies include the first year.
  • Maintenance: COP 100,000 to 900,000 a month, depending on changes, backups and support.
  • Store platform: Shopify lists plans from USD 19 a month, plus per-sale fees.

Watch the promotions: in September 2026 IngAamira Lab found a .com domain at COP 38,994 for the first year that renewed at COP 99,990 a year, and hosting at COP 4,900 a month that required paying 48 months upfront.

What drives a website's price: pages, features and who owns it

The five factors behind most of the gap between quotes →

  1. Number of pages and content — A single page doesn't cost the same as a site with services, a blog and case studies
  2. Features — Forms, payments, inventory, bookings or integrations with other systems
  3. Custom design or template — A template lowers the launch price; a custom design costs more upfront
  4. Recurring costs — Hosting, plugins, email and platforms can outgrow the initial price within a few years
  5. Ownership — If the domain and hosting are in the provider's name, switching providers costs you the site

Hand-coded website, one-time payment: no hosting fee and the domain in your name

Julián Franco builds hand-coded websites, without WordPress, for a one-time payment and with free lifetime hosting on GitHub Pages. The only yearly cost is your domain renewal: the domain is registered in your name and you pay the registrar directly. There are no plugins and no mandatory maintenance fees.

I don't publish a fixed price because every project's scope is different: the price comes from a written proposal after the diagnostic. My hourly rate is public on my Upwork profile.

5 questions to ask before accepting a website quote

  • Who owns the domain, the hosting and the code?

They should be in your company's name. If they're in the provider's name, you can't switch without losing the site.

  • What is paid every year, and to whom?

Ask in writing for the renewal price of the domain and hosting, not just the first year.

  • Does the website have a monthly fee?

It doesn't have to. If the quote includes one, ask exactly what it covers: hosting, maintenance, email or a platform.

  • Is it ready for Google and for mobile?

Titles, descriptions, speed and structure should come built in from development.

  • Can I update it without always depending on the provider?

Changing a price or a photo shouldn't require paying for support every time. The full list of questions is in VALNET's guide (in Spanish).
